Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct they paths.

The purpose of the Visiting Christian Science Nursing Service of New Jersey is to provide Christian Science nursing care on a temporary, hourly basis to individuals living in New Jersey relying solely on Christian Science for healing.

The Service is managed by a Board of Trustees who take care of the business affairs as prescribed by the New Jersey State laws and by such other power conferred by the By Laws of the Visiting Christian Science Nursing Service of New Jersey.

The Board of Trustees consists of at least 7 members but not more than 12 – each of whom shall be a resident of New Jersey, a member of The Mother Church and one of its branches in the serving area, and be class taught *.

The Trustees serve for a three-year term and may be reappointed for two additional three-year terms. The Trustees elect the members of the Board. They also elect their officers, a President, Vice-President, Treasurer and Secretary.

The Board has full legal responsibility and authority for the operation of the Visiting Christian Science Nursing Service of New Jersey. The Visiting Christian Science Nursing Service of New Jersey was formerly accredited by The Mother Church and was governed by the Accreditation Standards for Visiting Christian Science Nurse Services of the then Department of Nursing Activities of The Mother Church.

The Board’s primary responsibility is to ensure that the Visiting Christian Science Nursing Service of New Jersey activities are supportive of Christian Science healing and of the standard of Christian Science Nursing established under Article VIII, Section 3 of The Church Manual by Mary Baker Eddy. It endeavors to see that the Service is meeting the needs of the field and is operated efficiently and economically.

The Board selects a qualified Christian Science graduate nurse, currently listed in The Christian Science Journal, and provides supportive working conditions. They provide the necessary equipment and resources to operate the Service — and it is the Board’s duty to inform the field about Christian Science Nursing and the availability of a Visiting Christian Science Nursing in our area.

The governing Board and the Visiting Christian Science Nurse share the responsibility for upholding the ethical standards of Christian Science healing and nursing. They work together to support metaphysically the Christian Science Nurse’s work in the field and the Service’s harmonious operation.

The Visiting Christian Science Nurse is responsible tor administering the Service efficiently, economically, and in accordance with the operational policies established by the governing Board.

This Board meets monthly with the Visiting Christian Science Nurse, and the President or designated Board member is in weekly contact with the Christian Science Nurse – or more often if necessary.

Both the Board and the Visiting Christian Science Nurse maintain the standard of confidentiality established under Article VIII, Section 22 of The Church Manual. (7/8/94)
